12 Ways to Increase Google Reviews

Like many running a small business you may be struggling to generate reviews and attract potential customers to your business. 

Reviews, specifically on your Google my Business page, are incredibly important and can greatly influence customers’ decision making. Knowing how much value consumers place on customer reviews, Google has factored them into its local ranking algorithm—not just the quantity of reviews a business has, but the quality of those reviews. In short, Google reviews can have a considerable impact, and because of this, we have provided some tips on how to increase your reviews on Google!

1. Provide great customer service
Go above and beyond. Mistakes are bound to happen, but by showing the customer you are willing to improve shows that the business appreciates the customers and their feedback. If a customer is blown away with your company, the service you provide, their purchase, or their experience, they’ll feel compelled to leave a review. 

2. Complete your Google My Business profile 
This is small but can be huge when it comes to customers finding your business online. If your business profile is unclaimed, missing information, or has old information that is now inaccurate, it could be the reason someone does not leave you a review. The same could happen with a phone number or business name. 

For example, if someone were to search your business and the address is incorrect on Google, they may think, “This is not the location I went to” and move on without leaving a review. 

3. Ask your customers

By training your employees to ask for reviews in casual conversation, whether on the sales floor or at check out, you can greatly increase your number of reviews!
In an email
If your business sends out a monthly newsletter or any informational emails to your customers, make sure you add a place to ask for reviews! This can include a direct link to your Google business page and make it very easy for customers to be guided directly to where they can leave a review!
On your business website
Like an email, you should also put a link on your website! This not only makes it easy for customers to review your business, but also provides a way for potential customers to easily view the reviews posted and get a feel of your business based on the reviews from your current customers!
On your business social media
Social media is a great way to not only attract new customers, but also keep your current customers updated. By providing a link to your Google business page along with “Review Us!” in a tweet or Facebook post, one can easily compliment your business on it’s social media presence while also raving about their experience with your business! 

4. Send a reminder after their experience with your business
Often when people are in a hurry to get to their next task they’ll forget to leave a review once they leave your store or finish an online interaction with your business. Because of this, it is important to send a friendly reminder at the end of the day so they are more likely to have free time to leave a review. 

5. Follow up multiple times.. but not too frequently!
Similar to tip #3, you may need to follow up more than once. People can have very busy schedules and often be forgetful. It is important to remind your customers to write a review, but not to annoy them. I would recommend about 3 reminders over a 7-9 day period. 

6. Respond to your reviews
When a customer sees that the business owner regularly responds to feedback left on Google, they will be more inclined to want to share their feedback as they know someone will actually be reading it.

7. Be open to negative reviews
Let your current and future customers know that you are working to improve your business based on their feedback. 1-2 star reviews should be answered quickly when they come in, meaning you need to monitor your reviews frequently. Think through your responses and be prepared for a back and forth conversation.

8. Advertise your reviews 
Posting your positive reviews is always a great way to encourage satisfied customers to leave one as well! Some great places to show off your reviews are your website, your social media accounts, and below your email signature. 

9. Show customers how they can leave a review
With screenshots and a few lines of text, you can easily show customers how to leave you a review on Google. In short, one must: 
Search Google for the business name
Click the blue 'Write a review' button
You may be prompted to sign in, if you are not already. 
Enter your star rating, comments, and a photo if you like and click 'Submit'

10. Conduct Social Listening
If you find someone complimenting your business, your products, or your customer service, go beyond just liking the post. Reply to the post and ask these satisfied customers to write a review. To increase your chances, include a link to your Google business in the reply to make the process easy!

11. Have a google review card in your store 
By making Google review cards and having them available for customers to grab on their way out of your business makes it easy for your customers to not only are reminded to leave a review when they find the card in their pocket, purse, or car but it could also show them how they can do it easily!
